Referrals & Fees

Fees

Our fees depend on the service you are accessing, and range from $200 - $250 per 50 minute session. This is dependent on the type of referral you hold, and whether your appointments are during or after business hours.

Your support doesn't end when your session does - this fee includes time spent writing clinical notes, treatment reports to your GP / support team, reviewing brief reports/ letters from other professionals and brief Letters of Support (e.g., under 20 minutes per task).

Longer reports & activities (e.g., above 25 minutes per task) may incur an additional fee.

Medicare & Rebates

If you want to access Medicare Rebates, you need to obtain a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) or an Eating Disorder Treatment & Management Plan (EDP) from your GP.

For information on what a valid referral needs, please see the information below titled: "Information for GP's".

For a psychologist providing a standard length session, this rebate is approximately $101.55 per session. Your rebate may vary depending on the type of referral and service you access.

What that means for you is that if your upfront session fee is $200, and you are rebated by Medicare $101.55, then your total out of pocket cost per session is $98.45. Please note, these fees are provided as a guide only and are subject to change.

MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT PLAN (MHTP)

Provided by your GP, this is a referral that allows your GP to approve Medicare funding (i.e., rebates) for mental health concerns.

Each calendar year (i.e., Jan- Dec), the government provides each person with 10 Medicare Rebates for that year. Your initial referral can allow a max. of 6 Medicare-funded sessions, and upon completion you will need to get a re-referral from your GP to access to the remaining 4 sessions. This review point supports your ongoing care, allowing us to collaborate on your care and ensures your GP has the information they need to give you gold-standard care.

Please note, Medicare does not cover late cancellation fees, report writing/ preparation, and some types of counselling (e.g., relationship counselling and family counselling).

EATING DISORDER TREATMENT & MANAGEMENT PLAN (EDP)

Supplied by your GP, this referral is for people who suffer with an eating disorder & allows up to 40 sessions per calendar year.

Individuals can get a 10 sessions per referral, and upon their 20th session with a psychologist they are required to get a specialist review with a Psychiatrist or Paediatrician. Please note that these professionals often have long wait-lists, and it is strongly recommended that you book in your 20th session when you commence an EDP to avoid treatment disruptions.

BULK-BILLING & REDUCED RATE FEE

We offer very limited spaces for bulk-billing and reduced cost fees.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

We can support clients funded by the NDIS under self or plan-managed plans.

Please contact us for more information on current availability for these services.

Work Development Permit(Vic) & Work Development Order (NSW)

If you have unpaid fine debt and are experiencing financial hardship, a mental health condition or other challenging personal circumstances, you may be eligible to reduce or clear your fines while receiving psychological support.

Kim Shaw is an approved sponsor in both Victoria & New South Wales, which allows eligible clients to "work off" outstanding state fines simply by attending their regular, scheduled sessions. If accessing under a MHTP or EDP, you can continue to claim rebates on your sessions while working off up to $1,000 per month of your fine debt.
